Here is the sixth post in our Kick the Clutter Challenge series. It challenges you to delve into the dishes and get them organized.
Remember when you had a nice set of dishes that matched and you had all the pieces, including the bowls, salad plates, dinner plates and coffee cups? Somewhere over the years, the collection dwindled, the plates got chipped and bowls disappeared into your kid’s bedroom never to be found again. It happens to all of us—before you know it that pretty set of dishes is nowhere to be found.
Time to go through all of your plates, coffee mugs, bowls and glasses. If they’re chipped, recycle them or donate them. Get rid of plastic dishes with BPA due to health concerns. If your dishes are 25 years old and don’t make you happy when you set the table, it may be time to spring for a new set of dishes. The kids are gone, so treat yourself to a new set of dishes that won’t disappear and won’t get chipped!
Have your tastes changed from a traditional Mama to a Bohemian pattern lover? Add sparkle to your table with dishes that you love. Mix and match plates, patterns and napkins for a fresh look. Mismatched items can be funky and express your personality as long as they don’t look like items from a dorm. Or buy the white set of dishes and rock your style with an assortment of linens. Table setting can be a creative outlet and can bring a bit of joy to your day.
Are coffee mugs taking over your cupboards? You know, the ones with all the silly logos on them that you’ve been collecting over the years. I’m pretty sure you don’t need all of these anymore (unless they make you smile every time you use them). Choose a few mugs to keep and make sure they would look nice when you host a few friends for coffee and cupcakes. If you have an espresso machine, gather up some chic espresso cups to serve macchiatos in.
Plates and bowls should be neatly stacked in your cupboards and should be easy to access. Glasses may need their own shelf and they should be a matching set. Once you’ve delved into your dishes and decluttered them, you’ll be excited to host your next gathering of friends or family. Get out the wine and nibbles and enjoy!
